RE: Keep on Rolling Towards the Sun…

Dear Lizard Head Cycling Family,

COVID-19 Vaccinations & Guest Safety

As the vaccine roll out has proven safe and COVID cases from the Delta variant are on the rise, here is our latest COVID operating plan. All of our guide crew have been vaccinated.

  • Guiding is at its core about assessing and minimizing potential risk. Out of an abundance of caution, Lizard Head Cycling is asking our clients to be vaccinated beginning on trips departing September 4th and onward. We have made this decision after consulting with our guide staff, guests, and numerous doctors. We believe this decision will minimize risk to both our guide staff and clients. Increasing COVID case numbers of the Delta wave are straining our overburdened healthcare workers and this is especially so for rural hospitals.
  • Non-Vaccinated Guests: If you are under the age of 12 or have a health reason that would allow you to physically cycle, but not be vaccinated, we will require a COVID test 72-hours prior to tour departure. Please let us know and follow this link for the testing site nearest you. You can learn more about at-home testing options here. See here for CDC vaccine guidance.
  • For trips through mid-September 2021, we are asking our guests to have at least the first dose of the two dose vaccines or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
  • If you have questions about “life after vaccination”, here’s a good rundown from the CDC. Please let us know what your vaccination status will be prior to the trip (on our COVID release form).
  • During travel to our tours we ask guests to avoid high risk COVID areas and wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible (indoors, airlines, etc…)
  • If you develop COVID symptoms prior to the trip, please contact us and we’ll reschedule you. We will not accept anyone on our trips displaying symptoms at the pre-trip meeting.

COVID-19 Protocols while on Lizard Head Cycling Guides Tours

  • Prior to our tours, guests are sent a COVID-19 pledge. There are masked zones while on tour during group shuttles, federal buildings and as required within public buildings. While driving we keep the air fresh with windows and vents opened.
  • We are continuing to eat outside whenever the option is possible and preparing delicious meals in our outdoor kitchen.
  • Providing hand washing stations and making other cleaning supplies readily available to clients at camp, on the road and while on the trail.
  • If you are feeling ill, it is your responsibility to inform the guides. The guides will help you isolate at a hotel.

A Backcountry Mentality in the Front-Country

Lizard Head Cycling Guides has a history of backcountry mountain bike tours in which we carry an outdoor kitchen with stoves, chairs and tables on all our front-country road tours. As such, during the pandemic we are a self-contained group preparing delicious home cooked meals, eating outside and picnicking our way across the landscape.

All of this is towards the goal of helping our guests feel safe and cared for while on tour with us. At this point in the pandemic, we are dealing with risk assessment and risk management. This is inherently what a guide service such as Lizard Head Cycling Guides does best. We continue to assess the current trends to operate safely in remote environments in which we travel.
