Can I Really Ride this Bike Tour?

Yes you Can…

Before their first bike tour with Lizard Head Cycling Guides many cyclists worry themselves silly about not being able to keep up or that they will slow down the group. But then they’re surprised to find that all the worrying was about nothing. Once they arrive on tour and see first hand that our bike tours are not a race and that they have all day to get there, they finally relax. Life is short and we aim to enjoy ourselves on these tours. Good coffee, good food, and good views are a priority 🙂

Slow and Fast only exist as relative terms to other people.  Speed does not matter as long as you are moving on the bike.

Do the Bump!

Daily mileage options allow cyclists of varying abilities to enjoy our bike tours. One of our favorite options is to give cyclists a “bump” via the support vehicle, or a 10 to 20 mile lift down the road representing an hour of pedal time.

After the bump the rider is “off the front” and riding at his or her own pace without feeling they are being left behind the group. They’ll then have time to linger and take in the spectacular scenery. All cyclists come together in time for lunch. Afterwards, cyclists can take another bump and/or continue riding.

Seamless Mileage Options

Lizard Head Cycling Guides designs multiple mileage options for each bike tour – something we’re well known for in our business. Daily shuttle options allow cyclists of varying abilities to enjoy our tours through mileage customization.

Slow or Fast?

PLEASE don’t be scared away from bike touring with us. These tours are not as hard as they sound! In fact an 81-year old cyclists road our Colorado Cols tour during summer 2014 and did just fine. Although he did not ride fast, he road most miles, took in the sights and was truly an inspiration to the rest of us.

Like we say to even the most reluctant cyclist, “You will be ready for a bike tour with Lizard Head Cycling when you are finished with a Lizard Head tour”.

And we’ll make sure you finish!

If you have questions about your ability to ride our tours, please contact our office (info@LizardHeadCyclingGuides.com or 970.728.5891).

How the Shuttle Works: Our bike tours offer cyclists a challenge while at the same time providing easily accessible mileage options for cyclists of varying fitness levels and desires. Lizard Head Cycling’s tour leaders offer advice and provide cyclists with profiles of each day’s stage. Cyclists customize their experience by reducing overall mileage and choosing to avoid or focus on climbing the big hills of any given day. The system works through a support vehicle that jumps ahead rather then sags to set up aid stations. This allows cyclists to linger at the back and then take a ten-mile, fifteen-mile or whatever mile “bump” forward to catch-up with or get ahead of the group.

Bike Tour Support: The tour is supported by a 15 passenger van and trailer which carries all luggage and equipment.

The Daily Schedule: Cyclists ride at their own pace. Tour riders depart each morning as early as they choose and can use the support vehicle when they desire. The support vehicle provides a shuttle option from aid stations along the route. Plan to depart early each morning to allow time for siesta and swimming.

Daily Support Schedule:

  • 10 to 25 mile mark: liquids, energy food, & fruit
  • 35 to 50 mile mark: lunch on the trail: fresh sandwiches, fruit, salad, & soft drinks
  • 75 mile mark: liquids, energy food, & fruit
  • 100 mile mark (when applicable): liquids, energy food, fruit, and a stretcher 🙂
