The Haute Route cycling events are among the most demanding amateur races in the world. This is as close as amateur riders can get to experiencing the thrill, elation and suffering of racing in a Grand Tour. The Mavic Haute Route Rockies 2018 event is 7-days in length with over 550-miles of racing and 52,500-feet of climbing through the Colorado Rockies

Total Mileage/Climbing: 550 miles (875 kilometers) / 52,500 feet (16,000 meters)

Average Daily Mileage: 79 miles (125 kilometers)

Ability Level: 3/4 (Advanced to Challenging)

Tour Package Cost: US $3,550 per person

Haute Route Package Includes: 8-nights lodging (double occupancy), mechanic support (your bike will be cleaned and tuned for each day), shuttles to and from race venues, daily laundry service, daily aid stations, water bottles, socks, jersey, energy food and liquid refreshments.

Tour Exclusions: Mavic Haute Route Race Entry fee, alcoholic beverages, massage and bike rental are additional.

How to Sign-Up: Register through the Lizard Head Cycling website and we will then provide you a code that you use to register for the Race-Entry in the Mavic Haute Route system for ‘free’.  NOTE: One can also sign up directly for Race-Entry (sans lodging package) in the Mavic Haute Route and then purchase the Lizard Head Cycling support package.

What to Expect

The Mavic Haute Route Rockies 2018 race field is limited to 500 racers. Expect a well-organized event from start to finish where each day rider times and classifications are posted and leaders’ jerseys and team awards are given.

Lizard Head Cycling Guides complements the Mavic Haute Route Rockies 2018 event by sourcing a Colorado lodging and dining package with our local’s knowledge of the best accommodations and restaurants in each town.

Our Colorado local’s knowledge of the mountainous race terrain will be invaluable to our clients. This will be a team experience for our riders. Daily aid stations along the race route will provide energy food, mechanical support, and serve as a place to drop or pick up clothing. Each day your bike will be cleaned and serviced, your laundry fresh, energy food laid out and water bottles filled.

Lizard Head Cycling is well known for its exceptional guest services. We will help you achieve your best.

Race Entry Fee

If you have already registered for the Mavic Haute Route Rockies 2018 event directly with Haute Route, you can still book the Lizard Head Cycling Guide’s event package.

Non-Riders

Non-riding partners can join you for this event. Non-Riders (NR) add to the overall team experience of these events. Non-Riders’s can watch the race from the support vehicle and aid stations along the route. If Non-Rider’s have their own vehicle they can take in area attractions that we can help recommend. When the number of Non-Rider’s is 4 or more a dedicated Tour Guide and vehicle will be issued to the group. Non-Rider’s can then explore tours of the mountain towns, National Monuments and swimming, hiking, etc. The Non-Rider package is US $2,750 per person.

Mavic Haute Route Rockies 2018: Logistics & FAQs

Bike Shipping

Lizard Head Cycling recommends shipping with BikeFlights.com. Bikes can be shipped either to our partner bike shop in each meeting town for professional assembly or directly to the meeting hotel for self-assembly. Bike boxes can generally be left at the meeting hotel during the tour. Bikes shipped across the continental US should be shipped 8 days prior to your tour.

Tour Support: A 15-passenger van and trailer that carries luggage, food and equipment will support this tour.

Travel Insurance

Lizard Head Cycling Guides highly recommends clients purchase Travel Insurance through MH Ross Travel Insurance. A policy can be purchased individually through the sales link below or Lizard Head Cycling Guides can also set-up a policy for its clients.

The estimated cost for a 50-year old buying insurance for a $2,500 tour ranges from $100 (standard plan) to about $200 (cancel for any reason plan).

  • The best options for our clients are either the Asset or Bridge plans.
  • The Asset-Plus & Complete plans both include a Cancel-For-Any-Reason option.
    • As a result these plans cost more.
    • The Cancel-for-Any-Reason option is only available when insurance is purchased within two weeks of initial deposit.
