Colorado by Two Wheels: Which Bike Tour Should I Choose?

Lizard Head Cycling Guides are Colorado locals and the Centennial State is our backyard.

Colorado offers a diverse mix of mountains, lush valleys, and river canyons for both road and mountain bike riding. It’s a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts and many professional cyclists and triathletes call Colorado home during the training season.

The state’s altitude, challenging terrain, and good weather most of the year provide for world-class cycling. Here’s how to experience Colorado’s iconic scenery!

Road Cycling Tours

There are various road cycling tours throughout the Centennial State.

Whether you prefer challenging climbs throughout the Spanish Peaks or a scenic ride through Colorado’s “Brothels & Brews,” we have a road cycling tour for you.

Colorado Cols

Colorado by Two Wheels: Which Bike Tour Should I Choose

Southern Colorado is the most remote region of the state with the lowest vehicle traffic. Our Spanish Peaks, Colorado Cols, Telluride-2-Taos and San Juan Skyway all are located in southern Colorado.

The Colorado Cols Tour rides between 325 and 485 miles (E.F.I.) over the course of seven days and includes the picturesque Red Mountain Pass switchbacks which offer above treeline views of the San Juan Mountains.

There are numerous summer and fall tour dates throughout the year, including the June 18 to 23, 2018 tour where you can ride to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival! The Colorado Cols Tour offers plenty of epic climbs to see Colorado’s iconic mountain views and cute towns. This tour is perfect for the adventure cyclist looking for a challenge and incredible scenery.

Aspen to Taos Bike Tour

Colorado by Two Wheels: Which Bike Tour Should I Choose

Our 11-day Aspen to Taos Bike Tour focuses on vertical landscapes and Colorado mountain town culture. On the first day, you’ll gently climb to Maroon Bells, the most photographed mountains in Colorado. Other iconic climbs on this tour include the newly paved Cottonwood Pass and Independence mountain passes, 12,000-foot passes that both have served as the Queen Stage of the USA Pro Challenge bike race. Test your strength on the Cannibal Classic from Crested Butte to Creede, where you may be eaten alive!

During the tour, you’ll enjoy time in Aspen, Crested Butte, and Taos, New Mexico. On the last day of the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to climb Pike’s Peak, in our opinion Colorado’s most grueling road bike climb. The Aspen to Taos Bike Tour is a good fit for cyclists looking for epic climbing and a taste of Colorado’s mountain town culture.
