Lizard Head Cycling Guides is a road and mountain bike touring company headquartered in the mountain village of Ophir, Colorado in the Colorado Rockies.
The company’s owner, John Humphries, has worked professionally as a guide for over 18 years. Early in his career John worked with troubled youth as an educator leading hiking and biking tours and soon after was employed as senior guide for Western Spirit Cycling organizing, creating and leading bike tours from Idaho to New Mexico. In the winter months he managed and served as a lead guide for Colorado’s only heliskiing operation, Telluride Helitrax. John has two young sons, Marshall (age 6) and Ellis (age 3).
In 2007 John launched Lizard Head Cycling Guides to coalesce the ethos garnered during his guiding career; a customer service oriented approach for clients with empowerment towards the creativity of the guide staff. Lizard Head Cycling Guides strives to offers an approach to the craft of guiding that is professional with a flair for the artistic.
Many of Lizard Head Cycling’s guides have over 10 years of professional experience. The company is comprised of individuals with extension knowledge of flora, fauna, bike mechanics, logistics, culinary skills and emergency medicine.
